Let me tell you the Board and top management has sucked in all the employees and a lot of other folks. Things will change if the CU becomes a bank. The people that will be making a lot of money are people like Annette, Larry Daivdson, Sam Gonlzales and other board members. They get paid Zero now and they will soon be making up to $50,000 or more. This move will also be bad for the majority of the members, being 75% Hispanic that the peple that will lose as most of these members want small loans and FBCU wants big commerical loans. The BOD has no Hispanic's on the board and yet most of the members are Hispanic. Sam Gonzales is not Hispanic he hever has been. Please vote no and stop the BOD from getting an increase in pay.

Happy Customer,

It is very apparent that you are either and employee of the credit union or a member of the board, this is why your comments are without merit.

Information such as you posted about Ms. Moreno is of no importance to us members who really believe in the credit union movement and what she is standing for right now. What is by-pass?

I will vote NO. There is plenty of banks in this area to choose from. If I wanted to do business with a bank I would be a member there instead of at First Basin. If the changes happens, I will move to another credit union. I've already been checking.

If I recall, Ms. Moreno is just angry because she was by-pass for the position of President of the Credit Union, and if Ms. Uranga never get all her facts correct, please judge by the service and treatment you have recevied from the staff. I am a happy customer and will continue to put my trust in the current President. I would recommend Ms. Moreno find a better use for her time, and Ms. LULAC or take issue with other serious matters, immigiration. Thats why no one takes LULAC serious any more!

I am responding to the interest of LULAC in this conversion issue. First of all, because we are members of LULAC this does not mean that we are acting on behalf of the membership of LULAC, even though we believe we would have 100% support from the LULAC Council. I remember when southside Odessa did not have any bank or institution to call its own. MCCU was created at Lechuga's video Store on South Grant with Teresa Lechuga as the manager. She began as a volunteer for over 2 years until the credit union became stable enough to afford to pay her a small salary. We all signed up with Manny Puga and then some of us worked with other community leaders in order to make the credit union solid. I have 3 accounts at the credit union. I also bank at CitiBank for personal accounts and WNB for our LULAC account and at Security 'State and Bank of America for my business accounts. I feel very much at home at First Basin, even though I resented the name change......because I tend to shy away from change anyway. Recently, I was in the bank when the bank President asked me to leave the premises. I was unaware that I was trespassing because I do not agree with the actions of the BOD. But I now know that if someone in a public business does not want you there, they can refuse you the right to enter the premises. Membership at that point means nothing if you are not cooperating with the status quo.
Lets face it, Hispanics are notorious non-voters and non-participators. We lose many battles because the majority rule becomes the order of the day. I don't see us stopping the conversion unless each one of us realizes that our single vote will make a difference, very much as in a political race.
Please help keep the credit union and hope that the BOD will continue to add services and benefits that they are proposing to add to the credit union and its membership. I urge all the members to count for something now.....VOTE NO. WE HAVE
VERY few things that we can call our own, unless they have a Hispanic name. First Basin can be ours and continue to be ours if we learn to support what we believe in and that means to take the time to vote against the conversion.

Dear Member,

The Hispanic Chamber has no involvement with our organization. The fact that we are members of LULAC does not take away from the facts listed on this site.

We appreciate your concerns and the time you took to post your comment. You are exactly correct in saying that we could all go to another credit union, however, why would we move without at least trying to save OUR credit union.

Again, our motive is only to inform. As a member you have every right to vote as you wish.

If you will read the information on our site about expanding small businesses and mortgage loans, you will see that this is possible now as a credit union, we do not have to convert to do this.

Sincerely,
Letty Moreno

My vote will be NO.... what about the half a million dollars the board is to walk away with after the conversion.. is that going to be distributed to the members or the employees ? doubt it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It’s appalling to me that the leaders of LULAC and the Hispanic Chamber would oppose a plan to expand home and small business lending to a membership that is largely Hispanic. They are concerned about our rates, fees, and member ownership, but if First Basin was really out to get our money, wouldn’t we all just switch to another credit union? Give me a break, Ms. Moreno! We’re not all suckers.

Whether it’s an aversion to change, vindication, or simple ignorance, this opposition is inexcusable and a slap in the face to the Hispanic members.

It is ashame that web sites such as this one is used for personal attacks against former Employees. As a Member, we should focus on what is best for " Our " credit union. This conversion is not beneficial and is not in Our best interest. I support Ms. Ayala and the many others trying to prevent this from happening. My vote will be NO.

P.S.

As for Annonimous, ( which is incorrectly spelled ), it isn't hard to guess where you're heart is.

Yes I think Letty wants to Save the Credit Union!!!!!!! Go Letty!!! And everybody that is backing this up. If we wanted to bank with a bank then we would of opened an account with a bank but we have our accounts with a credit union.. Lets save FBCU.

Dear Anonymous,

I oppose the conversion because I believe it will lead to worse rates and fees, the loss of member ownership, and the loss of First Basin’s democratic governance. These reasons are up on this website.

It is always easy to accuse someone of being a "Disgruntled employee," but that’s simply not why I oppose this conversion. As a former employee, I have very direct knowledge of the value of the CU and an in depth understanding of First Basin’s situation and finances. I also understand that the reasons directors have given for conversion just don’t hold up.

I request that, in future posts, commenters talk about the facts of the conversion proposal rather than using this as a forum for personal attacks.

Why don't you members read your mail? First Basin has responded to these concerns. Take some time to do some research so you can make an educated decision. Letty Moreno is a disgruntled former employee of First Basin. Do you really think she wants to "Save First Basin"?

It dosn't take a rocket scientist to figure out whose going to lose if our credit union (I started with the Ector County Employees Credit Union in 1979) converts to a banking institution and whose going to profit from it. I recommend anyone wanting to know more go to www.membertrust.org/current/firstbasin.html and use your common sense. My "no" vote will count this time.

My family and I have all had our own accounts with First Basin since they were MCCU. I believe the conversion will be a good thing. With the conversion First basin will be able to provide us with way better products and services. I honestly believe the rates will not get worse. I believe they will stay the same. I mean think about it, First Basin has always been about taking care of the members and growing within the permian basin. Why would they even consider the conversion if it did little to benefit they're members?

My husband and I joined First Basin back when it was MCCU, because we prefer credit unions to banks. Thinking back, it seems to me that the name change was the first step in what our directors must have had in mind for a long time. Since we have joint accounts, and my husband's name appears first, I am not certain that I have a vote. Think I'll open a share account to make sure I can. And then we will both vote NO. But it's pretty simple for us: if change in charter goes through, then we will simply do business with another credit union. Know any good ones in Odessa?

I joined a credit union because I wanted the advantages of a credit union. If I had wanted to deal with a bank, I would have opened accounts with a bank.

I believe the studies which show savings interest is highest and loan interest is lowest at credit unions and I'm convinced rates will be worse if FBCU converts.
